I've now completed the layouts for the print version of the Yes yes yes club flyer. The flyer format is A5 half fold, and the following images show the layouts for the outside cover and inside of the flyer:

Flyer commission for Yes yes yes! club night

I've recently been working on my first free lance commission creating a flyer for a new burlesque club night called Yes yes yes!

Below is the completed e-flyer which I created first. I am now working on the flyer for print which will be produced in A5 half fold format and should look rather nice I think...

The illustration is by Andrea Kett, and I was responsible for all the rest of the design, including the Yes yes yes! logotype which I created in Adobe Illustrator by laying script type along a hand drawn curved path, and manipulating the swashes by hand to intertwine them more harmoniously. The copy text of the flyer has also been arranged along hand drawn curved paths to break up the information into more attractive units and to give an old fashioned "hand rendered" poster like feel to the image.

Project review

I am very pleased with the final outcome of my project! I believe I managed to achieve an extremely high standard of fabrication and finish on the completed sign, thanks to the talent and expertise of the team at Remco Signs - I am very glad that I had the sign professionally made as I am certain that had I tried to fabricate elements of it myself as I had originally planned to do, that it would not have looked as high quality as it now does.

I am also very pleased with how the event went and with the feedback from audience members and several other burlesque club organisers who attended - particularly with regards to the sign which they all agreed was an innovative and effective addition to the event. This was exactly the reaction I had hoped for, and I think it illustrates that the audience members saw the sign as a new and exciting added element to the cabaret experience, just as I had hoped.

Though Oz did not manage to see the project through to completion with me as previously hoped, he was still extremely pleased with the work that I did and expressed his gratitude in the following statement:

‘Miranda has been a pleasure to work with on the Theatre of the Divine project. Both creatively and in terms of sheer effort and enthusiasm that she has shown, I couldn't recommend her more highly. She produced artwork and ideas to an excellent standard and kept to my brief very precisely but with the flexibility and skill to adapt to new ideas and directions as they developed.
I was most impressed with her diligence to the task in hand and ability to create 'on the move'.
I have worked as an international fashion photographer for fifteen years with some of the great creatives of my generation and I can honestly say that Miranda has the potential to make an exciting mark in the industry. I would happily work with her on any relevant upcoming projects.’

Oz was very grateful that I managed to hold a successful first night of the event he had envisioned despite his difficult circumstances making it impossible for him to help. We hope to collaborate again and hold another Theatre of the Divine event in the future!

Live photos!

I've just received the live photos from Wednesday night from my photographers Laura Billing and Tom Medwell. I'm very pleased with how they've turned out! I think they document the event very well - here are a few of my favourites:

I have also received the live footage from the night, filmed by director Luke Blair, which I am very pleased with. The file is too large to be posted up here but will be submitted on disk on the 2nd of June!

Phew!

The club last night was a big success!! There was a bigger crowd than I expected, and I made over £200 on the door which was a nice bonus. The burlesque acts were received very well indeed and the sign looked wonderful installed at the back of the stage. I got a great deal of very good feedback from the club owners and staff who really enjoyed the show and appreciated the crowd it pulled in. It was particularly rewarding to hear the reaction of "Wow!!" from so many of the guests stepping into the space and seeing the sign for the first time! I also received a comment that the sign "Really added an extra element to the performances and made them even more special" which was exactly what I had intended, and was wonderful to hear.

The only slight problem was that I was unable to install the fluorescent tubes around the heart. The wall surface was too uneven to support them, which was a problem I had anticipated - I had hoped we might be able to find a way around it but unfortunately it wasn't possible. Due to the time and budget constraints caused by Oz pulling out of the organisation and funding of the night I had to go with whatever venue I could get for free as quickly as possible. Though the set up wasn't completely ideal at Favela Chic I thought that the decor and ambiance would more than make up for it even if it did turn out to be impossible to install the tubes. I believe I was right - the sign looked fantastic installed on the drift wood covered back wall of the club - perhaps even better than if it had been on a plain flat surface along with the tubes. I have just received the first lot of pictures back from one of my photographers, Tom Medwell including a few that I took using his camera:

More to follow soon!

I am extremely pleased with how the night went, and am seriously considering making it a regular event - I will be discussing this with the people at Favela Chic.

Final arrangements...

Today I have been making the final arrangements for the club tomorrow... Exciting!
I have confirmed my stage hire booking with PF Events who will be supplying me with an 8x8ft stage (made up of two 8x4ft decks); I have bought a variety of screws and rawl plugs from my local DIY shop to use when installing the sign and have gathered together necessary tools and an extension lead, just in case; I have burned disks of music and made a few last minute costume additions, and have packed up everything ready to go in the morning. I am aiming to get to Favela Chic at 2pm (the earliest the staff arrive after their late night shifts) to install the sign. The stage will be arriving at 4, and the venue will open at 5 or 6.
